*Akwanga may get the APC zoning to produce governor
Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has given the go ahead to his deputy, Silas Ali Agara, to contest the governorship seat in 2019.
www.gongnews.net gathered from very reliable senior party sources, that the go ahead was as a result of pressures from all quarters on the governor to hand over power to Nasarawa North senatorial district (Akwanga zone), which have never tested power since the return to democracy in 1999. Silas Agara is from Akwanga.
The source who begged not to be named said “the governor two weeks ago gave the go ahead to his deputy to contest for the governorship in 2019.
“Other issues left are that of zoning the governorship seat to Akwanga zone, where the deputy governor comes from. Beyond all these, the deputy was so loyal to him.
“Though, zoning is unconstitutional, we are of the firm believe that our party, the APC, will zone the seat to (Akwanga zone), for equity, fairness and justice”.
“We had series of meetings and we are meeting today (Sunday), to brainstorm on the way forward towards realising the desire of this zone to produce the next governor. Our traditional rulers and stake holders are lobbying very hard and we are sure, APC will zone the governorship to us here.”
“The deputy governor recently had a meeting with his entire staff in the deputy governor’s office to officially inform them of his ambition to run for the seat of the governor and he also set up a contact committee to go round and consult on his ambition for 2019,” the source said.
