*We want to reposition the club
As part of marketing drive to turn around the fortune of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan in order to make it self sustainable, the club’s supporters club has appointed Bowles Consulting Services as it’s consultant.
The idea is to raise huge amount of money for the club so as to support the management and government in some area having realised that government alone cannot do it. This will help in turning around the fortunes of the club to regain it’s lost glory.
Chairman, Shooting Stars Sport Club supporters club, Mr. Oluwafemi Oyeniyi made this disclosure Wednesday at the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo state secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital while addressing journalists on the plans of the supporters club to raise millions of naira in order to put the club in good shape.
“The funds, he said will be used to support the club. Who says we cannot pay for the coaches, assist the players in the area of welfare among other things? We want to be seen as real supporters that contribute meaningfully to the growth of the club and not collecting from the club. This is our project and we hope it will be successful hence our decision to appoint a reputable consulting firm to help in this area of fund raising and we solicit your (SWAN) in this area so as to make it a success,” he said.
He said that the supporters club has kick started efforts in order to meet ardent supporters of the club among whom are traditional rulers, philanthropists, corporate organisations in order to raise fund to put the club in its right shape.
Oyeniyi said “We are not saying we are going to pay the salaries of the players, but we are saying that if the government don’t have money to pay the salaries, we are going to raise money to pay the allowances of the players. We have also contacted some traditional rulers within and outside Oyo state.
While reacting the Chief Executive Officer Bowles Consulting Services, Mr. Steve Akadiri having expressed appreciation to the leadership of the supporters club noted that his mission was to restore the lost glory of the club.
He said “I want to state that my mission is going to be tagged project restoration. We want to restore 3SC. 3SC is the biggest brand in Nigeria. We don’t know what we have. We want to take it from the level of club. 3SC is not a mere football club but a brand that goes beyond this country and with over eight million supporters/fans that are scattered all over the world we should be able to raise enough funds for the club” he said.
The Chairman, SWAN Oyo, Niyi Alebiosu, however in his speech at the briefing urged the consultants to be up and doing in the assignment given to him saying “the people of Oyo state and Nigeria in general want to the club to regain it’s lost glory.”
