AFN Board meeting holds in Abuja this morning

*Despite media denial by Olamide George Tuesday night

Multiple checks by www.gongnews.net about the purported cancellation or postponement of the board meeting of the much vilified Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) will hold at 10:00am today in Abuja.

As at the time we went to bed, eight of the members of the current board were sighted in Abuja. Though, none of the members will speak to the media on the issues surrounding the appointment of committee members which had seemingly torn the federation into pieces.

Sunday Adeleye, the newly appointed Technical Director, spotted at the Nnamdi Azikiew international airport on his way from Ilorin told www.gongnews.net “I am in for the board meeting. We may be addressing gentlemen of the press after the meeting. All I wish to tell you is, I have resumed as the AFN Technical Director. I am just coming from the National Youth Games where I had my baptism and it was a very smooth take off.”

On the verbiage in the media about a divided board, he quipped, “you were an experienced athlete and journalist. Conflicts are never managed on the pages of newspapers or social media. When the board meets tomorrow (Wednesday), we shall speak with one voice and let Nigerians know that there is no iota of crisis on our board.”

Late evening on Tuesday, AFN Vice President, Olamide George, who spoke to Channels Television late night sports programme from Ilorin did not show any sign he will be attending the Abuja meeting hinging his reason on certain directives from the Ministry of Sports that all board members must be in Ilorin.

George had been in the media showcasing a division on the board against the President who he accused of running the federation like a sole administrator in a democratic regime without following democratic ethos and principles.
