*We are launching a big project this weekend

Hon Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau, Presidet of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) is silently turning the field around. Things seems are looking up real good for the sport of athletics. He has had the loudest infantile noise in this term of the 42 federations in the nation but he seems to be inching faster to doing the talk. We are having the All-Comers with a difference in Abuja this weekend,” was the confident voice of Amechi Akawo.
On the calendar of his federation, he has done the S. O. Adeleye marathon. Like a joke, he pulled a rich crowd of top Nigerian sports dons to his federation’s congress and now the All Comers athletics championships in Abuja this weekend and by next weekend, the first leg of the Golden League will stroll in in Kaduna.
The All-Comers event is expected to be keenly contested as it will be used among other things to select athletes that would participate in the Federations’ Golden League meetings.
A remarkable feat all these sounds. To AFN Secretary General, Amechi Akawo, “this is a time to belong here. Things are happening with dizzying speed. One needs to be fitter than the athletes to cope with the kind of reforms coming in. President Shehu-Gusau is beyond words.
For athletes and officials, my word is, do your bit. It has never been this good. There is a package to be made public this weekend in Abuja. If you hear of it, you will agree with me that athletics if the leader of Nigerian sport. The President made a promise in Congress and he has scored another first with delivery. Watch out and see what I know.”
According to Mr Akawo, “Over 2,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate in the event inside the main bowl of the National Stadium in Abuja.”
