Afrobasket: Nigeria sets up camps in Florida, Lagos

Nigeria has set up two different camps in preparation for the Afrobasket 2017 women championship in Bamako, Mali.

According to a statement signed by Chimezie Asiegbu, the Secretary General, said the Engineer Musa Kida-led board of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) met and approved the list of players and coaches in preparation for the championship.

The camps will resume on Monday, 24th July, 2017 in Orlando, Florida, USA and Lagos, Nigeria respectively. The foreign-based players will converge in Orlando, Florida while the home-based with some foreign-based players holidaying in Nigeria will converge in Lagos.

The full list of the players and coaches for the Orlando, Florida, USA and Lagos, Nigeria camps are as follows:

Orlando, Florida, USA Camp

The coach for the camp will be Vincent James Samuel. While the team for the Lagos camp are:

  5. Nkechi Akashili – First Bank
  6. Upe Atosu – First Bank

  10. Nwamaka Deborah Chidinma – First Bank
  11. Ulabo Queen Roseline – Dolphins

Two coaches are scheduled to manage the Lagos camp. They are Peter Favour Ahmedu of First Bank and Ochuko Okorogun of Dolphins.

The FIBA Africa Women’s Championship is also called Afrobasket. It is the women’s basketball continental championship of Africa, played biennially under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. The tournament also serves to qualify teams for participation in the quadrennial FIBA World Championship for Women and the Olympic basketball tournament.
