Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s first summer tennis clinic will on Saturday come to an end in Akure, the ancient community housing the capital of the state with new set of enthusiastic budding stars who have in their scores shown traits of global leadership, if and when mentored.
The weeklong activity which attracted two of the nation’s best tennis athletes including Nduka ‘The Duke’ Odizor and Mrs Rolake Olagbegi-Kazim as well as the first Nigerian to make five consecutive Olympic games, Chief Mary Onyali.
Chairman of the local organizing committee, Engineer Olumuyiwa Sonuga, himself a resounding tennis buff, in a review interview praised the initiator, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s vision and drive, he also singled out the extra brilliance of two of his team: Blessing Akinrolotu and Seun Betiku.
Engineer Sonuga thanked parents of the children for bringing forth “outstanding children who were willing to learn and who learnt new tennis skills. They should take maximum advantage of the post-clinic activities to take the training programme into the next stage. Ain’t these kids the luckiest folks?”
“I am not unmindful of the roles of the few media organisations that gave us one of the best and compelling news reports since the lead-up to the project. With what I know, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s plans is not about now. Only God can compensate her but our children are up for the great assurance of a comprehensive sports career.”
Some of the guests expected to close the weeklong activity is the state governor, Arakunrin Olurotimi Akeredolu (SAN). This is also the maiden public function of the newly appointed Commissioner for Youth and Sport, …
Executive Director of the Nigeria Sports Development Fund Inc (NSDFI), Chief Mary Onyali told www.gongnews.net “we are glad to have partnered and delivered this tennis clinic. Let me also announce that we are working on consolidating the clinic with the first of the six National Sports Development centres. Ondo has the south west regional slot.”
In all, six sports disciplines will benefit from the initiative which has been named after the First Lady, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. We shall raise the funds, domicile same here, deliver the programme in six communities, two per senatorial district. It is the nation’s first deliberate private sports initiative.”
