Amaechi pats Fresh for football development at the grassroots
Former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Ameachi, has charged the Vice chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, for developing football from the grassroots, providing the opportunity for the talents to be annexed.
The minister of Transportation said this at the grand finale of the yearly Plateau state Governor’s cup in Jos.
While handling over the award to AYF Ameachi whispered to his ears (Fresh) ‘I have been receiving different calls, reports, concerning the incredible works you have been doing to keep the youths away from social vices which is part of what we need to be united in this country (Nigeria),” Ameachi said
Receiving the award, the Jagaba of Nigerian football (Fresh) thanked the former presidential trust fund chairman for finding time in his busy schedules to grace the occasion; for the role he played prior to the Fifa world Cup in South Africa in 2010 for getting the needed fund to prosecute the tournament.
“I feel honored that this prestigious award is being given to me by you, I must confess to you that the entire football fraternity appreciates your immerse contribution on the road to the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa. And we hope that such formula can also be used this time around because we cannot afford not be at Fifa world in Russia” Fresh said.
Fresh who received the award due “to his tireless efforts toward the growth of football development from the grassroots thanked the organisers especially the state’s FA chairman Mr Sunday Longbam for deeming it fit to continue to bring out talents in Jos.
‘You are doing a great job for the growth of football in this state, I want urge you not relent in keeping the youth of the state engaged” he said.
It would be recalled that the governor’s cup was founded in the year 1975. This year’s tournament saw Jos north LGC beat Bassa LGC 4-2. Whilst Langtang south LGC beat Shendam LGC by a lone goal.
