According to Asuquo who is equally the Technical Director for the federation after he was elected as the technical representatives’ days ago, effort are in top gear to bring up Gymnast that would continuously win gold medals at the African Games, world championships and Olympic Games.
Giving a breakdown of his intention to transform the game alongside the incoming President and other board members, the only Nigerian Gymnastics coach who has been certified by world Gymnastics body added; “Being the technical Director at this time, my first task is to prepare and take athletes to upcoming African Junior tournament which comes up towards the end of July and early August. When we return, we will prepare for National Youth Games. Again, we will have another championship in December.
“By next year, we will begin our school programme. The programme is expected to first of all engage physical health teachers in all secondary schools, then, they will in turn impact on the Students that will be selected for routine or regular training. I believe that the incoming president and other board members together with the federation secretary team up to uplift gymnastics in Nigeria.
“With the development programme which I’m already compiling, very soon, Gymnastics will be number one sports in Nigeria. Days back, the Senate passed a bill that is focused on football administration in Nigeria. Such thought will soon be shifted to Gymnastics in a bid to ensure rapid growth and development of the game.
“Are you aware, there are nothing less than 25 gold medals to be won in Gymnastics alone in every internationally organized tournament including All Africa Games, World championships and Olympics? It’s time for us to refocus our attention on discovering more talents in Gymnastics than any other Sports in the country.”
“At the moment, even before I became technical director and board member of Nigeria Gymnastics Federation, my club alone have trained a lot of Gymnast that can compete favourably in part of the world.”
