*Only days after Deji Tinubu passed on
Reports reaching www.gongnews.net indicates that former Nigerian Football Association (NFA) spokesperson, Austin Mgbolu, is dead. Mgbolu died Wednesday at his Gwarimpa-Abuja residence.
Reports had it that Mgbolu, popularly called in the industry “Booster” had a major surgery in January. He appeared to have regained good health, before complications early on Wednesday led to his being rushed back to the hospital. He later died at the medical facility.
Mgbolu’s death comes less than a year after he buried his mother, late Mrs Celina Amungi Mgbolu who died on the 25th March, 2017.
He was until his death a senior staffer of the Niger Delta Ministry in Abuja where he worked after serving under five past Presidents of the Nigeria Football Association: Emeka Omeruah (1993 – 1997), Abdulmumini Aminu (1997 – 1999), Anthony Kodjo Williams (1999), Dominic Oneya (1999 – 2002) and Ibrahim Galadima (2002 – 2006).
Mgbolu was also a seasoned journalist who worked with the defunct National Sportslink in Lagos. He was a regular guest on Daar Communication’s Africa Independent Television (AIT) Saturday Morning sports programme. He is survived by his wife and children, family and friends.
News of his death sent pains across the nation’s sports industry. His is coming just some days after the burial of another sports giant in the industry, Deji Tinubu.
