Beach Volleyball: Nigerian women are champions

*As Nigeria, Cameroon split honours

Nigeria’s Female representatives at the just concluded International Beach Volleyball tournament in Yaoundé, Cameroon have emerged champions of the tournament.

This follows the Team Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over host country, Cameroon Team 1 at 21-15, 23-21 in the finals described by experts as explosive and tactical.

Team Nigeria (Male) however lost in the male finals to the host country, Cameroon by 1-2 at 21-17, 19-21 and 16-18 to emerge runner up of the tournament.

The Team Nigeria beach volleyball coach, Imoudu Francis, was excited about the results declared that Nigeria is now a force to reckon with in the game of beach volleyball in the continent.

He lauded the players for displaying the stuff they are made of proving their superiority and supremacy over their opponents. The coach also appreciated the NVBF Board led by Musa Nimrod for their support in all ramifications to record the modest achievements in Cameroon.

The president of the Federation, Musa Nimrod, has congratulated the beach volleyball contingent for making Nigeria proud describing the victory as an end of the year gift to the nation, NVBF board and other stakeholders who have contributed to the modest achievements recorded in the year 2017.

The teams would be arriving Nigeria on Sunday 31st of December, 2017.

It would recalled that Nigeria’s women beach volleyball team, at Brazzaville defeated South Africa 2-1 to claim the event’s gold medal at the 11th All-Africa Games in Congo.

This is a major victory for the current board of Volleyball in the country since their 13th June election. The sport of Volleyball had practically died during the almost 20 years tenure of Engineer Habu Gumel. With this victory, there may be an upward surge in the interests of youths in picking the glamorous sport.
