*Dead man, Okpozo, to head Nigerian Press Council
*Four persons got multiple appointments
Five persons has been confirmed to be on the list of persons given Board appointments by the APC led Federal Government. Former member of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC), late Senator Francis Okpozo, was named among the Chairmen of the Boards. Okpozo died on the 26th December, 2016, with Buhari issuing a statement of commiseration on the 27th December, 2017.
In the statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President commiserated with “the family and friends of the late senator, whose championing of social justice in the Niger Delta, during his long history of service to the people, endeared him to many”.
The statement added: “As a stalwart of the APC in the South-South, President Buhari believes that the party greatly benefited from the octogenarian’s charismatic leadership and wealth of experience as a politician”.
The President also “hopes that all who mourn Senator Okpozo will carry forward his legacy of unwavering dedication to the unity of Nigeria, even as the nation would fondly remember his contributions to peace, development and justice in the Niger Delta”.
He prayed God Almighty to comfort the family of the deceased and grant his soul eternal rest.
Okpozo was, however, on Friday named to the Board of the Nigerian Press Council.
Investigations conducted by www.gongnews.net showed the other dead persons on the list includes:
Chief Donald Ugbaja as a member of the Consumer Protection Council (CPC). Chief Ugbaja, a former DIG of the Nigerian Police, died on 29th November, 2017.
Others are Asuzu Okpalaibekwe and Kabir Umar.
There is the case of Rev. Christopher Utov is a member of Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER). Rev Utov was the proprietor of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko. He passed away on 17th March, 2017.
Multiple entry: A scrutiny of the list of the new appointees also showed the names of some of the folks being appointed into more than one board.
There is the case of Sabo Nanono was appointed a member of the board of the National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI). He was, however, also appointed chairman of the board of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC).
Kabiru Matazu is another. He was appointed chairman of FCT Universal Education Board and also appointed to chair the board of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
Umaymah Abdullahi is another case. He or she was named on the board of Lake Chad Research Institute, Maiduguri as well as the Federal Medical Centre, Sokoto.
Also, there is the case of Habiba Umar. She was appointed on the board of the Federal Medical Centre, Yola and also Federal Medical Centre, Birnin-Kebbi.
Were these typographical slips or a case of anointed persons who will hold multiple offices?
