*We are set for higher grounds in athletics
As part of the preparation for the fantastic outing at the Commonwealth Games trial scheduled for 13th to 17th February in Abuja where pupils of primary and students of secondary schools would enjoy running the relays along with elite athletes, students of Britarch Group of Schools had guest appearance at the Capital Science School in Abuja.
Four relay squads were presented, senior and junior, male and female. “This is our first outing and I am happy that the students were able to make our school appreciated and respected amongst the educational institutions that attended the event” said assistant coach Ezra Jugo.
The senior male quartet include Sean Echendu, Harry Benjamin, Eze Goodness and Muawiya Usman. They came fourth in the invitational. While, the cynosure of the invitational in the female were the senior girls quartet of Gideon Chisom, Adediran Praise, Iripia Udida and Alagbile Toluwalase. They caused massive upset to come third. They got medals and a plaque for their efforts.
The junior male quartet include Umar Yari, Tobenna Nwafor, Okhae Ebenezer and Ivan Omagbemi. On the reserve team is Junilo Wahab. They came fifth upsetting some other schools in the anchor leg.
However, the junior female quartet include Uchenna Chisom, Gideon Munachisom, Daniella Joseph and Favour Adeleye. They came fourth in the invitational relays.
Coach Gad Onumaegbu in his comment on the performance of his wards said, “I am not satisfied but know their potentials to be great athletes is confirmed. This is practically their first race. I hope by the time we work on the tartan tracks, they will be fit enough even for international outings. Above all, I commend the school authorities for believing in us and the parents of the children for supporting their wards.”
Speaking as Captain of the team, Eze Goodness said, “we enjoyed the opportunities of going out to represent our school and we are very sure we shall get better. With the quality of our coaches, we are sure that we will get better. I personally love the fact that we competed against other schools. We are set for higher grounds in athletics.”
