*We are hungrier for the trophy – Okechukwu
Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical and development Committee, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, is full of hope that the Super Eagles CHAN team would come out victorious today as they prepare to take on the host side (Morocco) of the ongoing 2018 nations cup championship in morocco.
The chairman technical committee was speaking exclusively to www.gongnews.net at the training ground of the team in Casablanca Morocco
“We have been following and monitoring the progress of the team from the start in Kano where they participated at the League Management invitational tournament. Of course, winning the competition in Kano made us have confidence in them before they came to the CHAN tournament in Morocco.
Fresh who is the vice chairman Nigeria Football Federation strategic studies committee spoke on behalf of the NFF as regards the feeling of the federation.
“As the head of delegation to the championship I can reveal to you the feelings of the board members, football stakeholders going into this evening’s match in Casablanca. I mean you can see the mood of the above personalities I mentioned at their training session. They are all very happy and looking forward to return back to Nigeria with the trophy” he revealed.
The Super Eagles team beat Sudan 1-0 at the semi final to book a place at the final of the ongoing Nations Cup championship. They would play host Morocco who defeated Libya 3-1 at the semi final. The final match between the Super Eagles goes down in Casablanca Morocco at 7:pm Moroccan time and 8pm Nigerian time.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles and Akwa United FC of Uyo forward, Gabriel Okechukwu, is fully confident that his team will take the host country, Morocco, in the final of the Nations Cup to the cleaners.
Okechukwu spoke with www.gongnews.net after the team’s last training session in Casablanca ahead of the final match.
“We were not really the favourites going into this competition but here we are today. I can tell you that our spirits is quite higher than anyone can imagine for we have neared the finishing line of the race. Despite our slow start to this tournament going by our records at the group stage, with the injuries that rocked our boat as we swam past many oceans and with support of the rest of my team mates I shall give over 100%,” he boasted.
Gabriel Okechukwu who scored the winning goal for his local based club at the Aiteo Cup urges Nigerians based in Morocco to support them. I need to quickly thank my manager at MK Sports International for allowing me actualise my dream of becoming a professional football player.
Meanwhile, CHAN 2018 Nations cup has been a remarkable journey for Gabriel Okechukwu after scoring the winning goal at the quarter-final match against Angola in Tangier and also the lone goal that broke the camel’s back in the semi final match against Sudan. He looks forward to dropping his third goal against Morocco in Casablanca today.
