Chan championship: We shall finish top in Agadir –Salisu Yusuf

*Stephen Eze dedicates award to Eagles’ fans

Super Eagles Team B gaffer Salisu Yusuf has boasted that the Nigerians would finish top of the Group C in their new venue, Agadir, after they pipped Libya with a lone goal at the second group match in Tangier.

Coach Salisu Yusuf made this known while talking to journalists in Tangier, Morocco.

Olaoluwa Aro“We are very happy that the needed victory came at the right time when we most wanted it. You know what coaching entails which is information against formation of your opponent. For the Libya match we had a different approach. If you can recall vividly we played a 4-4-3 formation in our first match but adopted new strategy and tactics which was playing 4-2-3-1 and that somehow helped subdued our North African opponent Libya.”

Salisu Yusuf who was former Kano Pillars coach however noted that ‘the victory over Libya has not made us part of the qualified terms to the next phase but has positioned us on the verge of qualification so we are going to finish the job against Equatorial Guinea who were also pipped by Rwanda 1-0 in their group C game and come out as the leader of the group.

Stephen Eze who was voted man of the match against Libya however dedicated the victory and the honour to all the members of the Super Eagles fans in Nigeria and beyond. My sights are set on the next match in Agadir.

Hidden fight in the group: Meanwhile with Rwanda now joint top of Group C as Nigeria, after their 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea at the ongoing Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco on Friday, the other pairing seems that is where the fight is.

Thierry Manzi scored the only goal of the encounter, heading in a corner kick. The result means Rwanda now also have four points, while Equatorial Guinea have been eliminated from the tournament after losing their first two matches.

Libya are in third place with three points. A win for Libya irrespective of the result from the Nigerian game can make them proceed on six points. Rwanda will only need a draw to proceed on five points. Rwanda’s next game is against Libya on Tuesday, while Equatorial Guinea will face Nigeria also on Tuesday.
