*We shall do our best to support your office
Initiator of the ‘Let’s go, Girls!’ initiative, Chief Mary Onyali has congratulated Hon Omowumi Olatunji-Edet for her worthy appointment as the Commissioner for Women Affairs by the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Olurotimi Akeredolu (SAN).
Chief Onyali said, “Hon Omowumi Olatunji-Edet is one who has paid her dues in the sports sector while she was in Lagos. As a two-term legislator too and now Women Affairs Commissioner, it is sincerely speaking a very worthy choice by the governor.”
Chief Onyali who visited the new Commissioner shortly after her being inaugurated by the governor promised her, “we have a duty to do all within our powers to support you to succeed in the new post. You are coming at a time when the National President of the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Dr Gloria Laraba Shoda joined us to launch the Let’s go, Girls project in Abuja last month.
Being the NCWS chairperson for Ondo State, we shall work with your Ministry to launch the project in the state. This is also coming when we just concluded the Akure tennis clinic organized by Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu. The Let’s go, Girls will be integrated into the follow-up programme. Your state will host the National Sports Development Centre for the south west region.”
In her response, Hon Omowumi Olatunji-Edet thanked Mr Governor for finding me worthy to serve our people and our state from this window. I promise to do my best to lift up the stature of the women folk of the state.
According to her, as a former law maker, “I am aware that there are several legislations that would be required to put our social welfare and development sector on the global best practice level. We shall make our state a glaring example of how to make the social system very responsive and responsible.”
Hon Omowumi Olatunji-Edet gave kudos to the wife of the governor, Arabinrin Betty Akeredolu for the many initiatives she has brought to bear on the citizens of the state since her husband was elected to lead the state. I must take tis opportunity to commend her vision, energy and drives.”
