*Esther Dusu thumbs up for Imoudu, pledges support
Volleyball setter for the German national team, Denise Imoudu, has concluded plans to lend her support in her sport to the Edo state government upon the holding of the sports conference. Imoudu is from Edo state but plays for the German national team and club.
In an interview with her father, Marcus Imoudu from his German base, “we followed the comments of the Deputy Governor, Frank Shaibu and later the Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the conference and you can see the sincerity with which they speak about the passion of driving sports in Edo state.
“When I showed Denise what the governor was doing, she was so enthusiastic and said, “I will want to visit the governor, do a two-day clinic in Benin-City and follow up with sustained strategies to make some young folks come up in the sport.”
“I owe my fatherland this line of support. The governor and the state needs all the needed structures to make our state the best in Nigeria and a leader in the world. I am already thinking gout some strategies to employ in delivering the goals the political leaders have shown a strong will to achieve.”
Imoudu began an identifiable career at TSV blau-weiss Schwedt. From there my switched to Nachwuchsteam Store VC Olympia of Berlin. By 2011 she played in the German junior national team at the U-18 European Championships in Ankara.
From the season 2011/12 she played with the VC Olympia in the Bundesliga. By the summer of 2013, she had become first bets in the German national team.
In 2015, Imoudu teamed up with her team mates Jana Franziska Poll Ligakonkurrenten in VT Aurubis of Hamburg. Twice she won the Golden Most Valuable Player medal in the 2015/16 season, five times silver. After the club signed up for insolvency at the end of the season, Imoudu switched to SC Store
Denise who was born on the 14th December 1995 is a setter in her club and in the German national team. She is 180cm tall with a weight of 67kg. Her spike is measured at 290cm, while block is 280cm.
She is presently a member of Potsdamer SC.
Former Nigerian national team Volleyball player and Turkish professional, Esther Dusu, has praised the initiative of Denise Imoudu to support the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki in Volleyball.
In a telephone chat, Dusu, who runs SunEsther Sports Foundation with her husband, Sunny Pekos, the former Egypt-based goalkeeper said, “whenever she wants to come to Benin-City for the clinic, we shall offer her some level of support.
Dusu added, “Edo deserves this latest move so urgently. You know my coach in the national team, Tony Oghuma, is based in Benin-City. I also congratulate Governor Obaseki for his great vision. I read of all the Edo conference on www.gongnews.net and feel so proud of him. My prayer is God will help him and his deputy to be able to act like an emergency to bring back sports especially Volleyball in Edo state. We are waiting and praying for him,” she said.
