*Nigerian women’s volleyball team qualified for world women cup
Kehinde Lamidi-Chairman, Media and Publicity committee chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVFB) has disclosed that some level of confidence is flowing back into the game and this followed the women’s team victory over Ghana, the host country, Cote Divore at the just concluded world women cup volleyball qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote D’ivore.
According to Lamidi, the morale of the personnel in the sport had died. This makes it a herculean task to put in different structures to lift the sport back to where she used to be in the 80s. We need to start bringing up a new generation of athletes from schools. Soon, we shall the regeneration process with the astute leadership of my President, Musa Nimrod
The Usman Abdalah tutored team walloped its arch rivals, Ghana, by 3-0 set at 25/15, 25/17 and 25/7 in the first match. They went ahead to defeat the host country also by 3-0 set at
26/24, 25/12 and 25/ 20 in the second match to qualify.
The coach of the team, Usman Abdalah who was visibly happy lauded the players for their display of gallantry, dedication and patriotism.
The coach who appreciated the federation led by the president, Engineer Musa Nimrod for its support before, during and after the continental tournament promised to do the nation proud at the world tournament.
Reacting, the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod on behalf of the board congratulated the team and the officials for the laudable achievement describing them as worthy ambassadors of our great country, Nigeria.
The 14 women players and three officials are expected back in the country last night (21st August, 2017 by 9pm) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja into the waiting hands of the President and other board members.
