Eko football women championship enters quarter finals

*Quarter-final matches to be decided on Sunday

Eko football Women championship will gather more momentum this week as the quarter finals matches hold this weekend.

With over 44 goals scored so far in the championship, more goals are expected to be scored, when Young Talents 99 Angels taking on Ijamido Queens in the first quarter-final match of the day on Sunday at the Legendary Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

The match promises to be highly explosive with both sides having scored 11 whopping goals between them. The second match of the day will be exciting and very interesting with Victory Queens that has scored 8 goals so far in the championship, battling Phoenix Queens for a place in the semi-finals.

According to the chairman of the Technical Committee of the Lagos State FA, Dotun Coker, the championship has been highly competitive and to say the truth the standard of play is also very high with the teams improving with every match.

“I must commend the clubs for first and foremost their high level of discipline both on and off the pitch of play, the players and their officials have conducted themselves in a very disciplined way and even the standard of play has also improved, so we must give kudos to the coaches of the clubs and the organising committee for a job well done, so far”. Coker stated.

However the other quarter finalists will not emerge till Saturday at the same venue with Jagunmolu Queens with four points in group C taking on the group’s whipping team, St Joseph school, while second placed team in the group, Dream Stars Academy also with four points confront Apapa Golden Queens with three points for a place in the quarter finals.

In group D, it is a battle royale between Jojo Queens with six points in their bag slugging it with Royaltom Queens with three points in a match that all Jojo Queens will need is a draw to move to the next stage, while Royaltom Queens needed outright victory for them to have any chance of qualification.

Secretary of the Women Football Committee, Vera Hycent disclosed that the group matches will be concluded on Saturday, while all the quarter finals matches holds the next day, Sunday at Onikan Stadium.
