Election: Ministerial review panel may upturn Appeals/petititons decisions

*More than 80% of the decisions are faulty, embarrassing

By Oluwole Francis

With the quality of petitions addressed by parties that were not satisfied with the wishy-washy decisions of the Abdulrasaq Salau led elections petition/appeals committee, the verdict of truth may have to be released to the nation Wednesday which may afterall upturn many of those decisions.

The highest number of protests is from Taekwondo where several parties wrote to the minister raising all manners of evidences, facts with dates and human beings to protest the cancellation of the popular election of Mrs Margaret Binga.

Athletics had great protests. Even Directors of Sports wrote. Video evidences were attached which were ultra-convincing beyond reasonable doubt.

Certainly, with the way things go, more than 90% of the decisions of the Appeals/Petitions committee cannot stand. Infact, I am not sure there will be any re-run. The protests were in most cases convincing. There is another quality protest from the winner of the 13th June Weightlifting Federation,” said our source.

The review meeting which was chairmaned by the Minister himself, incidentally, a trained lawyer, picked so many holes in the decisions of the people he had saddled with a sacred responsibility but dented the job with extraneous interests of some senior staffers of the ministry. To say that the minister was terribly embarrassed is a mild way of describing his reaction.

The meeting extended till late night. Our reporter left the ministry at some minutes to 10 pm and they were still deliberating. This is a meeting that had began since morning. They had three breaks and resumed.

With the feeler we got, many of the decisions of the Appeals committee upon review could not stand the test of fair play, justice and the much desired progress for the nation’s sports industry. The review committee already threw out many of such decisions.

Even, in traditional sports federation. It was a replay of the outcomes in many of the other grounds. In one of the cases, a petitioner whose hand written, badly worded petition succeeded before the Abdulrasaq Salau committee was proven on video that his grounds were false and unreliable. His grounds led the committee to take substantial decisions which amounted to grim misplacement of justice. Here, the review panel decided there will be no re-run in the said federation. Infact, all the decisions taken on that federation were in error and have been reversed.

The source said, with the revelations from the review committee, the minister, Solomon Dalung just realised that he was working all the while with serpents and ambassadors of Lucifer. He was thoroughly shocked with the review of each of the about 45 cases seeking for review.

One of the candidates told www.gongnews.net that any other decision not upholding our case will be resisted. The man said, “I cannot afford to want to serve, spend my own resources to generate a new system and children in our sport and some folks will just sit in the comfort of their office and because they don’t like our faces upturn an election we won. If the review panel does not give us justice, I will gladly pull away. My business and other activities are suffering neglect.”
