*Launches three fire fighters for Anambra
Governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano, has insisted that the best antidote against losses in business is investment into insurance of both premises, properties and lives. He said the drive for safety has made his government to put in structures to safeguard the lives and properties of the people of his state.
The governor who gave this admonition in Awka, the state capital, on Wednesday spoke as he launched three new state-of-the-art fire fighting equipment acquired for the state.
The governor recalled he “had to cut short an official visit in Abuja to attend to the fire incident in the Onitsha market last February. That informed why the government has bought three new state of the art fire machines to protect lives and properties in the state.
Governor Willie Obiano said “Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka are well fitted with communication gadgets whereby the need for any emergency service like fire can be delivered for prompt support. The state fire service now has 15 trucks in all.
“The Police, ambulance, Red Cross and SEMA staffers will join in a combined effort to fight fire in the state. We urge citizens to always avoid and leave the fire environment to save more lives and allow the professionals do their jobs.
He also directed that persons who have private boreholes and hotels in the state shall be mandated to have the hose size of the fire equipment so that when there arises need for new stream of water, the service agency can be quickly facilitated in any neighbourhood to get such support quickly without hinderance.
“People are urged to insure their goods and properties. Insurance is very important in the life of businesses. We also recruited 50 first batch of new fire fighting personnel trained to make the business of fire fighting a serious matter of concern.
Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) boss said in his own speech that the governor promised on the 15th February 2017 to rehabilitate the 17 victims with N500,000 which he has fulfilled. He ordered the three fire fighting trucks, with other equipment. Here they are. He does not take lightly anything that will affect the lives and properties of the people of the state.
Hon Obi Nwankwo, the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources said in his remarks said “two of the trucks are called municipal fighting machines, with complete accessories has 10’000 litre water, dry chemical capability, 700 litres of foam support and can throw water 50metres with a hose size of 30mm. The 3rd is an urban fighting machine.”
The zonal Fire Fighting officer for the south East Mr C. S. Esinwoko in his speech said, “Anambra State is the first to re-establish fire victims with prompt financial support. War and fire inferno has been the greatest set back for man in the social system. That is why fire fighting is made a prefix but in other parts of the world but in Africa it is an after thought. Today, safety has become a part of fire prevention and this state has taken a leadership space.
He praised governor Obiano as a “game changer” in fire fighting. He got the state of art equipment to make our environment safe. Safety should be seen as everybody’s business. These machines gives security to the fire fighters. Anambra has taken leadership.
Present at the event are the FRSC Commandant Sam Ajayi, the Commissioner of Police Sam Okaula, the Ezeukwu of Mbaukwu Peter Anugwu, and the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Haffod Oseke.
