*She deserves this wonderful promotion

President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Dr Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau, has sent a warm message of congratulations to Nigeria’s only individual Olympic gold medallist, Mrs Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
Responding to a telephone interview reacting to the development, the AFN President, “this is heart warming and great. This is a result of dedication, commitment and hardwork. I am so happy for her and her family. Chioma remains one of the shining stars of our sport. Just last week at the Golden League in Kaduna I was addressing our young athletes where I used her as example of the graduates in the sport.”
The federation shall write to formally share her professional rise. We are so happy for her. This is a worthy personal achievement. This is the kind of mark that is worth putting out there. It is coming at a time when we are rebuilding the sport for greater glory.”
Also speaking, dual Olympic medallist, Chief Mary Onyali, who couldn’t stop herself from screaming, most likely dropping the phone at the other end and after about another five minutes called back but was still panting as if she just finished one of her cerebral races thanked God for her. She struggled so hard and deserved this rise. Now, hardwork and more hardwork pays. I am on leave and out of the country but have to call her later to congratulate her. She deserves this wonderful lift.”
Reacting to her own appointment, Mrs Chioma Ajunwa-Opara said in a telephone interview, “what can I say than to thank God and all those who had supported me to have this rare opportunity to serve my nation. The Police Force gave me the room to be the best in sport in the world and now, become an Assistant Commissioner of Police. It is God’s doing and we are glad.”
