*For investing on Kure, Nwanaga
*We shall expand the business relationship
AFN President, Hon Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau and Chief Mary Onyali have expressed deep appreciation to world top ranked equipment firm, Gill Athletics, who have donated aerodynamic javelin to “boost the preparations of your athletes, Samuel Adams Kure and Kelechi Nwanaga for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games.”
Speaking from Lagos where he was attending the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Annual General Meeting (AGM), Gusau was happy “to hear this Christmas gift. To us, this is a great gift. We had been troubled how to support these two athletes to be the best they can and here comes the news.”
Gusau also sent his appreciation to the Nigeria Sports Development Fund Inc (NSDFI) for initiating and getting Gill Athletics to invest so much confidence on these folks. With this, I will be expecting the athletes to proceed to work extra to justify this confidence. Yes, our expectations fro them will increase but then, they will need extra support to take them to the height. For me, my eyes are fixed on the Olympic Games in 2020 for them to medal.”
At the AFN level, we are almost through with some fixtures we are putting together. If those plans materialise, I see one or the two of them hitting the podium. We are looking at podium appearance in Tokyo.”
Speaking from Houston, Chief Onyali was full of praises for the Gill Athletics officials who saw faith in my pleas for them to support these two athletes. I must also mention and give special appreciation to the former Estonian pole vaulter, Valeri Bukreyev and former Australian pole vaulter, Steve Rippon.
According to Chief Onyali, “we have our sights on setting up a throws development centre in the south-east, we shall expand the business relationship to Gill Athletics for this rare confidence without promises. You know we already have a sprints centre in Ondo and south west and a middle and long distance centre in Plateau State.”
