Journalist, Bunmi Haruna, named as Nigeria’s U-17 coach

NFF Technical and Development Committee has appointed a broadcast journalist, Bunmi Haruna,  as one of the new coaches of the national U-17 team.

The Golden Eaglets, as the Nigerian U-17 team are known, will now be coached by Akwa United FC of Uyo boss, Abdullahi Maikaba, with Abubakar Bala as First assistant coach; journalist Oluwafunsho Bunmi Haruna as Second assistant coach and Baruwa Abideen as Goalkeepers’ trainer.

Bunmi Haruna is a broadcaster with Cool FM in Abuja and holds the CAF B coaching license.

In a brief telephone chat, coach Bunmi Haruna said, “I thank God for this opportunity. I will do my best in this assignment, a new phase in my career path and development.”

Nigeria won the FIFA Cadet World Cup (which debuted in China in 1985 as an U16 competition) in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015.

And in a related development, coach Bala Nikyu retained his post as the female U-17 gaffer, the Flamingoes. He will be assisted by former Kwara Bomber and Abiola Babes FC of Abeokuta central defender, Toyin Ayinla, while Ajuma Peter Otache and Christian Obi, who will be goalkeeper trainer.
