Kwara State government has restated its commitment to the development of Sports in view of its economic potentials.
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed stated this at the weekend in Ilorin at a get together organised for players and officials of Kwara State Basketball Team, Kwara Falcons.
Governor Ahmed who was represented by the State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, said government would continue to support the club in its campaign in the Conference Super Six billed for Lagos and the Super Eight scheduled for Kano.
The Governor explained that the State government would positively engage youths to stem restiveness in the society.
He commended the Kwara Falcons on their brilliant performance urging the team to ensure that they pick continental ticket from the Conference.
Governor Ahmed appreciated all stakeholders for their support and contribution.
Also speaking, the State Director of Sports, Coach Tunde Kazeem, thanked the State government and all stakeholders for their financial contributions and encouragement.
Coach Kazeem called on individuals and corporate bodies to support the development of Sports in the State.
The Chairman of the State Basketball Association. Dr. Joseph Adeyemo explained that the target of the club is to win continental ticket for the State.
Dr. Adeyemo who reported that the club was the first to reach the one thousand points in the nation stated that the Falcons came first in the Atlantic Conference winning all its home matches and nine away.
The Chairman noted that the welfare of the players was paramount stating that all outstanding match bonuses and salaries have been paid to motivate the players.
He thanked the State government and all stakeholders for standing by the team.
Responding on behalf of the players and coaches, Lanre Alimi and the Head Coach, Aderemi Adewumi, promised not to disappoint the State in the Conference Six and Super Eight.
