*Moves campaign train to south- south
*Straight fight against Amaju Pinnick
By Oluwole Francis
Given the mints from the mills, there are very clear signals that the immediate past Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, may be staging a return to the office. With the chances that some other high profile candidates yet to throw their hats on board, it may be a battle royale with the incumbent president of the board, Amaju Pinnick, who is not highly rated in performance.
The former Zabgai FC of Bauchi left wing attacker, Maigari, is reportedly having the backing of some of the decision makers in the seat of power. He is expected to visit Benin-City the capital of Edo state where he will meet with some stakeholders and also address members of Edo state Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
A highly rated workman in the Magari campaign team told www.gongnews.net that all necessary machineries have been put in place to ensure that Maigari not only contests and win the election but returns to occupy the hot seat as the president of the federation.
“I’m happy to reliably inform you that Alhaji Amimu Maigari will soon visit the south-south geo-political zone to solicit for support as he is ready to run for the Nigeria Football Federation seat. Take that information to the bank,” the source sounded with absolute confidence.
Though the source added a caveat, “we are very much aware of that many people have been working against the interest of Magari coming back as president of the Glass House in Abuja but be that as it may, we have consulted the powers that be and we are battle ready to face Amaju Pinnick in the contest’’.
“Again his coming to South-South zone is to meet with the relevant stakeholders and seek their support. We all know the antecedents of Maigari, he is somebody with a level of integrity. He served the board with all sincerity and if God returns him back to the board again as the NFF president, Nigeria football will reach its zenith”.
“While in Benin he will also address SWAN members from there he will move to Delta, Rivers and finally to the Eastern part. We know that it is not going to be an easy battle, but if things are done in the proper way, and there is total transparency in the election, I want to assure you that Maigari will emerge winner.
Incumbent President, Amaju Pinnick, has also expressed interest to run for a second term despite the halo of a pending final decision on the last election that brought in Pinnick. The plaintiff in the matter are supporters of Ambassador Chris Giwa, Obinna Ogba and Adama Yahaya. The Supreme Court is awaited to take a final decision on the matter.
On a level plank, the chances of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Member to pick the seat might be slim considering that the board he presently leads are seemingly not on the same page. Some days ago, he dissolved the committees and reconstituted it removing some of the people who do not seem to be loyal to him.
