Vice Chairman of Lobi Stars of Makurdi Mike Idoko has come out with the reason why he has chosen his team and football as a way to raise fund for the recent flood victims.
Speaking with www.gongnews.net one of the most successful club managers in the land said, “football has its power of bringing together people and it also makes you to forget your pains. We want all the flood victims to forget the pains and agony they went through and the only way we can do that is to let them see we love them and we also share in their pains, for 90 minutes when you watch football you will be happy and we want them to take the joy that they witnesses for life lessons’ he said.
Speaking further, he appreciate the efforts of the state government, Governor Samuel Ortum who has always been a father figure to Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi and promised that with his continuous support the club will be on the continent next season.
Idoko also appreciating the support of the Nigeria Football Federation for donating to the cause of the flood victims. For the Federation to send two board members Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande who is also a House of Representatives member means the plight of the people of the IDP will be looked into at the Federal level and Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh to be part of our Charity game means the Federation feel the pains of the victims and they also donated relief materials we really appreciate their effort.
While responding Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande who is an Executive Committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation called on the children in the camp to behave themselves and see the challenges of being outside their comfort zone as motivating factors to be a better citizens of the society while presenting them relief materials and football urged them to live a great life for their generation.
Idoko, used the opportunity to intimate the State Governor Samuel Ortom’s one of the biggest achievement for the season, in his words “the just concluded 2016/2017 NPFL season has been challenging and competitive, I am glad to announce the emergence of Tony Okpotu of Lobi Stars FC as the league highest goal scorer for the season with 19 goals.
Idoko also added that club have four of our players invited for the national team during the concluded season. Raphael Ayagwa, Kingsley Eduwo, Okemutie Odah and Tony Okpotu.
Lobi Stars of Makurdi played out a 1-1 draw with their neighbour Nasarawa United FC of Lafia at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi and the proceeds will be donated to the flood victims.
