Manu Garba: NFF turns U-17 to his property, right

*National team now rehabilitation ground for failed coach

By Olajide Fashikun

Again, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has demonstrated cluelessness, bias and a lack of variety in its choice of persons for the various National team coaches, with its recent appointment for the vacant posts. She made Coach Manu Garba the Methuselah of the U-17 team.

The same coach with a N200million budget helped Gombe United FC to relegation. Having failed at the club level, he should ordinarily have no business in any of the national teams. As it is, the national team looks like a rehabilitation centre for coaches who can lobby and not because of the quality of coaching they can bring on board.

Even outsiders who observed the appointments noticed that the cadet national team has been made to look like the property of the coach. He is making a return as the head coach of the Youth team for the third time! This appointment makes one wonder if the post is his exclusive right and or that there are no competent youth coaches available in the country. His assistants will be Jolomi Atune and Bunmi Haruna, Ernest Salolomo will act as the goalkeeper trainer.

In the immediate upper youth cadre, the U-20 will have an experienced former school teacher Coach Abdul Maikaba as the head coach. Mountain of Fire energetic youth coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and former Niger Tornadoes Abubakar Bala will both act as his assistants while former Atlanta 96 gold medallist goalkeeper Abiodun Baruwa will be the goalkeeper trainer.

Coach Salisu Yusuf the current Assistant coach of the Super Eagles will take charge of the U-23 national team job when he is through with the World Cup duties with the Super Eagles in June.

He will be assisted by his national team assistant coach Imama Amakapabo of  El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri coach and current League Champions coach, Kennedy Boboye of Plateau United FC of Jos.
Suleiman Shuaibu will be the goalkeeper trainer for the team
