Niger Governor’s Cup: Bida LG beats Mokwa to emerge champions
*Government is committed to support sports development
Bida LG football club have emerged the champions of the 37th edition of the 2017 Niger State Governor’s Cup. The final played on Sunday was witnessed by over 5,000 football spectators. They defeated the hosts, Mokwa LG FC 2-1 to cart away the trophy.
The Governor of the state was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Kesto, who in his speech urged the Niger State Football Association led by Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh not to relent in it’s efforts to promote grassroots football development across the state.
According to the deputy governor, “building youths in the society is equal to building peace. Everyone has today seen the importance of coming together as a football community. I want to urge the NSFA not to relent on their oars because we, in government, will also continue to ensure that sports gets necessary the proper and right attention in the state.”
Chairman of the Niger State Football Association Ahmed Yusuf Fresh on his part thanked the government for the immense support given to the NSFA.
“I want to thank His Excellency, the Governor of the state, for the enabling environment given to us at the NSFA and indeed the youths of our great state in using football as a socio-economic tool as we look forward to greater developments and achievements in the state.”
Also present at the Niger State Governor’s Cup were the NFF executive members led by the Secretary General Dr. Sanusi Mohammed and over 20 State FA Chairmen.
The weeklong championship which drew a perpetual crowd of fans had turned various upsets leading to the final. Hope were so high with the fans that their local team, Mokwa LG FC, will carry the day until their guests worked harder, scored one more goal than them to take home the trophy to Bida.
