*Plans for strategic success at Commonwealth Games
Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) holds in Lagos on Monday.
According to the President of the NOC, Engineer Habu Gumel, the meeting is scheduled to take place at the Conference Hall of Airport Hotel, Ikeja in Lagos, with all invited guests, including heads of sports federations and members of the NOC Executive Committee expected to be seated by 10am prompt.
Engineer Habu Gumel, who is an Executive Member of the International Olympic Committee said the AGM will be a fruitful ground for all federations presidents to review their score cards for the outgoing year and map out strategies on how Nigeria will excel at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Since the election of new helmsmen in the sports federations, this is the first time that the Olympic Committee will be offering them an opportunity to sit together.
Sources told www.gongnews.net that a recent effort by one of the forward looking Presidents of a federation to organise a parley for the Presidents to meet to review how they can share experiences was re-interpreted and blown out of proportion.
The same source disclosed that personal ambitions of some of the current chieftains of the NOC to remain in office is the basis for the extended crisis in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). This has informed the lack of correct will to do what is right lest the particular official will not be able to return given that Musa Kida, the new entrant, is said to be eyeing a senior position being held by the said official.
Habu Gumel had radiated on that seat and that of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation for decades with no tangible results of development and progress to show. Sources claim he is eyeing to return for the umpteenth time as the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
