*TAFCAN elections holds in Abuja today – Congress
Track And Field Coaches Association of Nigeria (TAFCAN) will Thursday hold fresh elections into the various office of the organisation in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Members of the Congress of the body had to summon a meeting in Kaduna during the first leg of the Golden League and took far reaching decisions which included picking 7th December to conduct a fresh election as well as setting up an electoral committee to conduct the process.
The Gabriel Okon outgoing Executive’s tenure had long lapsed but they would not take initiative to bring in fresh blood.
Several coaches have shown interests in leading the organisation with promises to the electorates to bring in verve, vision and great strides to the fortunes of their members.
The big fight seems may be in the President’s position. Outgoing Gabriel Okon is reported may be angling for a second term. ASP Solomon Aliyu, FUTA coach, Peter Ogogo, like the outgoing vice President, Femi are reported to be running for the President.
Some of the known coaches seeking elective offices include Micheal Monyei who is running to be a Vice President. Coach Osiebe Felix Onoriode is also known to be running for the Public Relations Officer.
In a statement published on his Facebook page, outgoing President, Gabriel Okon wrote: “the Outgoing Executive Committee of TAFCAN is expressing its deep thanks & gratitude to All Coaches for their supports the last 4 years in office.
