Northern governors to tackle insurgency headlong
19 Northern States Governors Forum has restated it’s resolve to tackle the issues of security and insurgency head-on to salvage the situation and safe lives and property.
The Forum stated this in a communiqué issued at the end of a special two-day meeting held in Kaduna.
The communiqué read by its Chairman, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State resolved to collectively tackle the issue of insecurity as one entity.
It commended the Federal Government’s effort in curbing criminality in the polity and for providing the necessary leadership to subdue Boko Haram insurgency and the drive to rid the country of all forms of vices that bedevil the nation.
The Forum expressed its condolences to the government and people of Borno State over the accidental bombing at Rann where several IDPs lost their lives and thanked all those who have commiserated with the families of victims in southern Kaduna who lost their lives during the unfortunate incident.
It assured that the crisis would soon be a thing of the past as the Kaduna State government is on top of the situation.
The Forum praised the Northern States Traditional Council for its support and assistance in solving the security challenges affecting the region.
The Forum also examined the report of the New Nigeria Newspapers Company limited and the Northern Nigeria Development Company.
It resolved to follow with the Federal Government to restructure the Newspaper outfit to a modern media outfit.
Answering questions from newsmen, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai thanked the forum for its support and standing by the State during its trying period.
The two day meeting was attended by Governors from the 19 Northern States including the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed who was represented by his Deputy, Elder Peter Kisira.
