Stephen Odey’s 48th minute audacious strike was all that was required to give visitors, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club their first away victory of the season against homers, Sunshine Stars FC in Sunday’s week 6 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played at the Akure Township Stadium.

Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and his wards who muscled out a point with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan in their last away game went all out for the maximum three points on Sunday and it was well delivered courtesy of a fine strike from league top scorer Odey, who netted his fifth goal of the season in four NPFL matches.

The hosts began the encounter seeking for an opener, stringing passes with great composure but MFM FC defenders stood tall to deny the home side any chance of scoring with Monsuru Bashiru, Opara Austine doing a yeoman’s job in the heart of the defence.

Sunshine Stars had a glorious chance to break the deadlock in the 14th minute of the encounter when Abbey Joseph tested MFM FC’s goalkeeper, Ospino Egbe but the latter pulled a save to deny the hosts their scoring opportunity. The first half ended goalless for both sides.

Ilechukwu’s men continued from where they stopped in the first half with fine display. Odey put the Owena Waves to the sword three minutes into the second half with a fabulous shot from the edge of the 18 yard box with Sikiru Olatunbosun providing the assist.

The hosts mounted pressure on the visitors but MFM FC’s defenders put up a good defensive play with Ospino Egbe pulling so many great saves.

With the crucial away points in the bag, the Lagos-based team still occupy the second spot on the NPFL log with 13 points from a possible 18.

They will be guests to Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABSFC) of Ilorin this Wednesday in a double away pairing.
