*Engineer Olumuyiwa Sonuga is Chairman of the Committee
Management Committee of the Ondo State Summer Tennis Clinic have been inaugurated by the initiator and wife of the state governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu at the Government House in Akure.
The First Lady of Ondo State, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu who is the initiator of the project, announced Engineer Olumuyiwa Sonuga as the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Tony Omonori is the Vice Chairman.
Other members are Prince Wale Olateru Olagbegi, Mrs Idowu Joyce Akinbulumo, Mr Martins O. Adeojo, Mr Adewumi Olabanji, Comrade Blessing Adebowale Akinlosotu, and Mr Sheun Gabriel Akinleye Betiku while Mr Henry O.Babatunde will serve as the Rapporteur.
The programme is targeted at encouraging and motivating the young ones to become passionate about sport especially tennis and also help them to gain the experience they need to become future star.
The First Lady admonished members of the committee to work effectively for the proper take up of the programme in the state. She also promised her total support for the programme.
It would be recalled that she got the Duke Odizor International Tennis (Do It) Foundation to partner with her in the delivery of the project in the state when Nigeria’s foremost tennis player, Nduka Duke Odizor led Chief Mary Onyali and Mr Olajide Fashikun on a visit to the First Lady last month.During the visit, the Nigeria Sports Development Fund Inc (NSDFI) team explained they would require six centres, two per Senatorial district, to be named as centres for sports excellence. The project was also named the Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu tennis programme.
Nduka Duke Odizor, who resides in Houston, also promised a N10million tennis equipment support for the state. Days later, Mr Odizor donated equipment to the project in his native Delta state to the governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in Asaba.
