*Ilorin remains a venue of passion to me
Nigeria’s legendary five-time Olympian, Chief Mary Onyali, will be honouring the participants of the athletics competition billed to hold among primary schools of the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State.
Onyali will be arriving Ilorin the state capital on Monday from her Abuja base. “It is my pleasure to go and cheer the next generation of champions. You know I had my first major break into national prominence in 1985 at the Ilorin stadium. Since then, Ilorin has remained a venue of passion for me.”
In a related development, Kwara athletics coach, Biodun Adeyemi, told www.gongnews.net that the tournament is tagged “All Kwara Primary Schools Athletics Championship” is billed to hold between 4th-5th of September, 2017 at the main bowl of the Kwara Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
Coach Adeyemi said the tournament sponsored by the Vice President, Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Region 2, Tunde Abdulkareem will feature no fewer than 300-400 pupils across the state.
Adeyemi noted that the tournament is aimed to catching them young, especially young athletes from the grassroots.
He said the championship was conceived in line with the policy of government to bring back the lost glory of sports at the state and national levels.
The coach also revealed that the athletes would feature in seven events, which include: 100m, 200m, 400m, mixed relay, medley, sack race and egg race.
