OSIMHEN RETURNS TO TRAINING AFTER INJURY SCARE

Super Eagles and Lille striker, Victor Osimhen will returned to training yesterday after initial fears he could be sidelined for some time with a muscle injury he suffered a last week.

The all-action striker was taken off on a stretcher in the 79th minute after he had opened scoring for Lille in the 17th minute.

He said he quit the game more as a precaution. “I just felt something, I didn’t want to take a risk and I left,” he said.

Lille officials said it was a minor injury and he will now be available for Sunday’s Ligue 1 clash against fellow front runners Olympique Marseille.

Osimhen has scored 12 goals in Ligue 1 and 18 goals in all competitions this season. Lille are fourth on the table with 40 points from 24 matches, nine points behind second-placed Marseille.

Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr has said his top stars Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Kenneth Omeruo will be fit and ready for next month’s 2021 AFCON double header against Sierra Leone.

At the weekend, Osimhen copped a thigh injury in action for Ligue 1 club Lille, CD Leganes defender Omeruo was involved in a collision, which forced him out of a La Liga clash, while Ndidi suffered a relapse of a knee injury that needed surgery.

“Osimhen will soon be okay, Ndidi is resting well and will be fit soon, while Omeruo has only a knock on the head,” Rohr said.

“I am confident our injured players will come back soon.” They will be around for Sierra Leone AFCON qualifier on March 23 with the reverse tie in Freetown a week later.
