Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property recently constituted to add impetus to the war against corruption by the President, under the Chairmanship of his Special Assistant on Prosecution, Barrister Okoi Obono-Obla, has commenced operations.
The panel made pursuant to the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provisions) Act, is statutorily mandated to investigate the assets of public officers perceived to have engaged in corrupt practices, or in anyway, breached the provisions of the Code of Conduct, thereby enriching themselves or other persons, thus, contributing to the economic adversity of Nigeria.
Accordingly, the Chairman is urging members of the public to assist the panel in providing necessary credible information that will enable it achieve its mandate.
Barrister Obono-Obla also assures Nigerians that the panel is not meant to witch-hunt anyone. He has further assured that all information received will be treated with utmost confidentiality, adding that the issue of wrong information will be handled appropriately as the panel has competent investigators who will painstakingly sift through every petition received to ensure that justice is done.
It will be recalled that pursuant to the avowed fight against corruption by the Buhari-led government, the panel was constituted in August 2017, by the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
Mr. Akingbolahan Adeniran is Secretary of the panel.
