Hon. Abubakar Nuhu Danburam, a member of the technical committee of the National Assembly House Committee on Sports has elaborated on the release of funds to Sports Federations henceforth. The Minister will bear the consequences if the Ministry fails to give out funds as directed by the Federal Government to various Sporting Federation.
Hon Danburam who is representing Kano Municipal in the Green Chambers made the observation during the budget defence of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
He added: “It’s a serious issue if we find out that the Sports Ministry is not releasing fund to the various federations as budgeted by the Federal Government, we also need to find out from the Ministry if truly they are not getting the funds they requested for the Ministry and I know the Sports minister knows the implications of all these.
Speaking with journalists after the budget defence of the sports Ministry on the issue of the mini sports facilities, the House member was asked if his committee has ever visited any of the “so-called” mini facilities in the sport budget.
“I have not seen any mini-facility in my area. I hope when the sport ministry finished any of the facilities the House will have to go and see them. I do understand there might be mini-facilities in all the six geopolitical zones, if they are, we need to know who is using them and where they are. Its like every year we have to deal with these issues. If the Ministry are sure the facilities are there, we, as a committee will have to visit and see where we have them.
The former Commissioner for Finance in Kano State also charged that this new budget year shall not be business as usual.
