Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, is the godfather of the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor may have spent a whopping N15 billion to secure the elective slots for Uche Secondus as the National Chairman as well as other favoured candidates on the Unity list at the party’s National Convention.
The Convention which was held on Saturday, 9th December at Eagle Square, Abuja.
According to the source, Wike was the mastermind of the Unity List which sprang up during the convention.
All the candidates in the list were “selected” for the various positions they were marked for. The source claimed that Wike paid off 6 governors to secure their support for Secondus. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state led the six governors.
He also said that the erstwhile National Caretaker Committee chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi allegedly got one billion Naira as well as juicy contracts from Wike, whom he referred to as “Father Christmas”.
Also, the-three member of the Caretaker Committee got N500 million, each Northern party chairman got N5 million, while each delegate got $10,000 (N3.6m).
According to the report, shortly before the convention, Wike had berated party personnels that tried to stop him from ‘buying’ the Convention.
He reportedly reminded them that he spent over N7 billion to ‘buy’ judgment for the Makarfi-led faction of the party at the Supreme Court against Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Our source also informed that the Governor had promised to bankroll Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition come 2019.
It could be recalled that Wike was caught on tape threatening Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials prior to the re-run elections held in the state after he dolled out mouth-watering sums to them.
