Hon. Muhammed Nur Sherrif, a member of the House of Representatives representing Borno State has lambasted the Minister of Sports Barrister Solomon Selcap Dalung for his inability to maintain the National Stadium.

The House member said these when the Sport ministry presented their 2018 budget proposal to the committee on Sport on Tuesday in Abuja.

He observed in his comments that “I want the ministry through the Minister of Sport to present a long term budget proposal for maintenance of the Abuja Stadium both in Package A and B, because it is becoming an embarrassment to Nigeria as whole.

“If we can build these massive edifice in the heart of the Federal Capital and yet we cannot maintain it, it is very sad to say the least. Nigeria being a football nation and we have these beautiful edifice and a visitor is coming to the Federal Capital for the first time and the place is very dark at night and to make it worst, the ministry cannot maintain a green grass and to water it, then, it has become a problem and yet, you have the facilities under your watch.

Hon. Sherriff also urged the minister to look at ways and how the facilities will be properly maintained, so that it can be used for sporting activities if the Nigerian Super Eagles are scheduled to play a friendly in Abuja and the state of the stadium is in a bad state.

While also reminding the minister the importance of the stadium location to Nigeria’s image, he added that, “I can’t imagine the ministry earmarking over N2billion for maintenance and yet what we get is poor facility.”

He also berated the Director of Facilities in the Ministry for not being able to carry out a simple job of maintaining the national asset placed in his care.
