Scrabble Federation sets new heights for 2018

*Set to sanction offenders of its rules, procedures

Board of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has reviewed its activities for the year 2017 and also its proposed programmes of activities for 2018. After extensive deliberations, certain observations and decisions were noted and taken.

According to a communiqué signed by Akintunde Akinsemola, the Chairman of NSF’s Publicity Committee, made available to www.gongnews.net, the Board appreciated all members of the Scrabble family for their support and cooperation in the execution of the mandate through the various successful tournaments and retreats all over the country.

It specifically identified with the following events regardless of whatever shortcomings experienced, the National Championship, the National Youth games in Ilorin, Wellington Classics, the Godswill Akpabio lnternational Classics, the WESPAC, Kenya.

The Board also recognised the outstanding performance of our players in recent past especially the international outings of the former World Champion Wellington Jighere, Moses Peter’s laudable feat at WESPA tourney in Kenya, Team Nigeria’s back-to-back overall first place in Australia and Kenya.

Two others were mentioned for special recognition which included MSI Category B World Champion, Jack Mpakaboari, as well as, our indomitable Malaysia Team of Chux Ehibudu, Dayo Tayo, Raymond Gbaraba etc

The Board also noted the immense contribution of the many social media platforms and their members in propagating the game to all nook and crannies of the country e.g. Nigeria Scrabble friends, Arewa Scrabble Friends, Nigeria Scrabble Veteran, NASTO etc.

The Board appreciated sincere and honest contributions geared towards the enhancement of Scrabble administration in the country. It assures members of its willingness to accept constructive criticism devoid of sentiments and personal insult.

It also appeals to administrators of various platforms to moderate and if necessary sanction those who abuse the codes of conduct of membership.

It also noticed with serious concern the negativity of posting on Facebook that seek to destroy the image of the country and urged   restraint.

The Board established the following committees to help in running the affairs of the federation which includes Finance, Technical, Welfare, Ethics and Discipline, Youth, Marketing and sponsorship, as well as, Publicity.

Membership of the committees shall be extended outside board membership.

Some other resolutions that the Board reached include to send the President to Akwa Ibom to seek a final resolution on unpaid balances of prize monies within a definite timeline.

The Board also resolved to take stringent measures to curtail issues of non-payment of prize monies, by making sure that there is strict adherence to rules governing tournaments organisation.

The Board agreed to welcome suspended members who are willing to comply with the minimum requirement for such. Rotimi Odulele was cleared to participate in NSF organised competitions.

The Board resolved to suspend Kabir Olaiya the only player that has not remitted his WESPAC winning percentage if he fails to do so on or before the 30th of December, 2017.

The Board fixed for congress, training and certification of new Adjudicators and Tournament Directors for March 2018, during the National Championship.

The Board also agreed to publish account on the earnings and expenditure which shall be provided to congress as required by Law.
