Senator kidnapped, N80m ransom demanded

*No new word from his kidnappers

Senator Ayo Arise, who represented Ekiti North Senatorial District in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2011 has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Okene-Abuja highway.

According to sources in Ado-Ekiti on Monday that the kidnappers are demanding the payment of N80 million to free the former Senator.

Arise, who was elected into the National Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), served the committees on Local and Foreign Debts, Banking, Insurance & Other Financial Institutions.

In July 2009 a court upheld the verdict of the Ekiti State Election Petitions Tribunal, which voided Arise’s election after a petition had been filed by the Action Congress candidate, Mr. Olubunmi Adetunmbi, who alleged substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2006.

He defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015 after he lost out in the power play that followed the emergence of Ayodele Fayose as the governorship candidate of the PDP in 2014 in the state. Fayose eventually won the election.

So far, no new word from his kidnappers.
