Shame! Kwara’s boxing ring is sub-standard

*Delays event from starting by one day

To many stakeholders at the National Youth Games in Ilorin, the game of boxing can not hold due to poor ring provided for the athletes which is not only substandard but also too small for the tournament.

The officials and coaches refused to use it for fights forcing the organising committee to look for an alternative.

Chairman Organising Committee Dr. Ademola Are, he said the committee has released money to bring a better one from Lagos to replace the rejected the ring.

“When we came to Ilorin we were told that the boxing ring need to be replaced and we approved the sum of one hundred thousand Naira (N100,000) to get a better one from Lagos which will arrive later Tuesday and hopefully the game will start Wednesday.”

Efforts made to speak to the host state’s Sports Commissioner, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, id not yield result before going to press. When www.gongnews.net sighted the ring that was still in construction stage, it only left questions unanswered. Was the host state not aware that the event will take place?

Is Kwara no more having coaches or athletes in the sport again? If they do, where do they train? Do they have a ring, whether standard or sub-standard where they train? This leaves a sour mark in the mouth in the state that had produced dozens of great pugilists in the state.
