*Mary Onyali gives kudos to First Lady for her initiatives
First Lady of Ondo State, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu as part of her vision to leave behind an informed, creative and economically strong woman in her state has launched a project code named: #Solar4GirlsNaija
The #Solar4GirlsNaija is a five-day summer bootcamp. It opens at the Elizade University Ilaramokin.
It is an initiative of the First Lady of Ondo State, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu which came about as a result of the present day reality in Nigeria where there is no electricity supply and the oil wells will soon dry up before we know it.
In addition, “it is a drive to bridge the gender gap in the renewable energy sector. Participants at the #Solar4GirlsNaija are to be trained on energy management, green energy sources, climate change awareness, building of solar panels, life enhancing skills – breast health awareness, sanitation and menstrual hygiene, healthy lifestyle among others.
“We are grooming girls that will redefine Nigeria sooner than later. YES WE CAN!!!
In a quick reaction, former African and Commonwealth sprint champion, Chief Mary Onyali said in a telephone interview, “I am forced to praise the various initiatives of Arabinrin Anyanwu-Akeredolu. She has not stopped tripping me. Her vision tallies with our ‘Let’s go, Girls’ project. Imagine the quality content of the #Solar4GirlsNaija
You are aware that we are working to also have in the same Akure a tennis clinic to be midwived by Nigeria’s most successful tennis icon, Nduka ‘The Duke’ Odizor. Immediately after the clinic, we shall launch the Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu sports project in the state. How lucky is Ondo people to have such a great influence in the First Lady. I wish we can have about six of such First Ladies in the country.
The five-time Olympian added, by the time the Solar4Girls and the sports projects kick off, you will see a new generation of global leaders emerge in the state. This is the kind of initiatives we need in our country.”
