Sports federation election: Fraud hits Athletics electoral committee

*Manipulation to impose Solomon Ogba’s candidate exposed

We can report with authority that the seven-man electoral committee that is saddled with the task to officiate and deliver a free and fair sports federation election in the forthcoming processes is afterall not going to be so.

Our investigation revealed that the members of that committee were single handedly picked by a powerful outgoing member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) who had promised to choose the President of the body. The committee are to deliver a particular candidate who has been schemed to emerge and continue the legacies of the outgoing Board.

Pundits told www.gongnews.net that the chairman of the committee, Lawal Garuba, was deliberately picked from Bauchi to ensure that a northerner does not contest or win the election. Fear is high about a particular northerner who was reputed to have contested the last election with Solomon Ogba.

To ensure the chairman of the committee has a smooth run, a Professor was chosen from the University of Port Harcourt, Okpako Johnson, while the Director of Sports of Abia State Sports Council, Isaac Ogbonna Isaac, is to provide the troika a stability to achieve the goal.

Findings show that University of Port Harcourt’s Professor Ken Anugweje who Mr Solomon Ogba has anointed to take over from him is to enjoy the workings of the electoral committee.

Anugweje who hails from Imo state is to come out from Abia state which will be guaranteed by the Director serving on the electoral committee. The Abia Director will be mandated to ensure that the five votes from the zone is guarded to deliver the candidate. The mathematical assumption here is that since Imo where he comes from will be delivered automatically, he will need only one more vote from likely Ebonyi and or Enugu states.

Every other candidate from the eastern part of the country are supposed to be shot down. With the emergence of candidates like five-time Olympian, Chief Mary Onyali who hails from Anambra and Charity Opara-Asonze who hails from Imo state, the calculation is to suffocate the delegates from the states to play the game as expected. Opara-Asonze’s Imo origin is part of the factors forcing Anugweje to run from Abia given that the plans have been worked out so perfectly.

Stephen Nuhu, Mrs Emily Oyase, Sunday Adeleye and Maria Osifo were just to make up the numbers and would not know the underground functions of what is going on in the committee. The list has been sent to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).

Question is that, Anugweje who is not morally qualified to run the Presidency of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) due to the mountain of unprintable allegations against him has been promised to relax his nerves because “we know what to do to make you emerge.”

The mountain loads of the allegations against Anugweje are being sieved and analysed. By the time these allegations are investigated and found out to be true and verifiable, we promise to publish and seek for prosecution.

However, we gathered that the pushers of Anugweje have also concluded arrangements to rubbish any candidate that comes out to rubbish or attempt to spoil their chances. A former multi-sport athlete who has been promised Technical Director is commissioned to do the job. He has the duty to make the Directors of Sports deliver and get paid for a job well done.

As the days closing to the elections, more revelations will be oozing out from the crevices. One thing that may also be certain without any doubt is that the electoral committee for Athletics is jaundiced and may not be trusted.
