*Post mortem analysis of the Sports Federation election
Is it true that a former athlete sold her house to prosecute the campaign to become a sports federation election? After the exercise, she lost and was reported to have landed in the hospital. Yet, one man is responsible, Solomon Dalung. Why should he die well?
This athlete is not the only victim of this village Igbarman? Where is he from? Why did Buhari give us an obstinate fellow who won’t take ‘informed’ advise from we the professionals?
He shattered so many peoples hopes and aspirations. He started with the Methuselahs (Habu Gumel and Sani Ndanusa, both of them Engineers who destroyed the premises they were to take care of, Volleyball and tennis respectively).
Those he swept off with the two grand pas of Nigerian sports fought and got third term windows. From the ballot, they were ‘killed’ but one who acted his name, Solomon Ogba, took an exit door. Yusuf Dauda (handball) was made a thespian exeunt. Tijani Umar (basketball) seized the throne, went to Kano to instal himself king. All hail the king of basketball! Kabiyesi o!
I dey come, siddon wella: Tell me, how can regulators not be judges, prosecutors and the accused in their own cases? “This Dalung is sick. I can swear by an affidavit to that effect. We are the trained professionals” said a staffer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. “We shall frustrate him. He should go and ask how many ministers we had
frustrated before him.”
Truly, the minister was very wrong. For instance, Mrs Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi is the Director of Federation of Elite Athletes Department (FEAD). She was alleged to have “singlehandedly conducted and supervised the NAWIS elections in Abuja.” She contested and won in the election she conducted. She fixed all her friends in federations. She won ticket to the Tennis Federation.
Dr. Ademola Are is the Director of Grassroots Development. He got in through NAPHER-SD. He became a member of another federation. Five other senior staffers got such ‘selections.’ Like June 12 Presidential election, Solomon Dalung used his fiat to annul ‘selections’ done freely and fairly. Kai! God will not forgive him.
Phase I of the frustration: Godwin Kienka was the Chairman of the Ministerial Sports Reform Committee. He was fingered to be the one feeding the minister with all these ‘rubbish.’
Mrs Hauwa Kulu Akinyemi, now scorned and injured. She had fury boiling in her bellies. She was reported to have sworn to take her pound of flesh back. She organised for Godwin Kienka to fail at all cost in his bid to become the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF).
Her committee it was reported doctored the electoral list which was released late in the evening on the eve of the election. The disqualified candidates were expected to raise heavy dust to scuttle the election. Only Brown Ebewele an Rosa Collins neared the expectations. The other none-Nigerians accepted their fate and told themselves “it is not by force to serve my fatherland.”
Yet, Solomon Dalung was spotted by many people to have done this ‘nonsense’. Tell me, how can he die well? No, look at it yourself. Can he die well? It is not possible.
Imagine, in is speech while inaugurating the 93 electoral committee members, his speech was clear on the fact that contestants vying for the positions of President and Vice President don’t need to belong to any constituency. In less than 12 hours, the minister was overruled by the princess of Kogi.
Ambiguous laws and clauses: Remember, we did a report highlighting the ambiguities in the Electoral guidelines.
For the position of Presidents and Vice Presidents of federations, the provisions for their emergence were not just so vague but susceptible to multiple interpretations. So many candidates had issues. Colonel Sam Ahmedu (retired) came from Lagos and was freely confused. We stuck by our story.
It was well after the election that one of the candidates who also was ‘manipulated out of my federation and replaced by a girl I brought up in the sport’ admitted that “during the well-attended stakeholders meeting in the media centre in Package A in Abuja, the minister said that in accordance with the recommendations by the Godwin Kienka Sports reforms committee, the positions for President and Vice President will be free for all who are so qualified. He said it clearly.”
This meant that aspirants needed not to be a zonal representative or that of any professional association or any such structure to qualify to run for these two posts. Here, www.gongnews.net has been justified.
“Dalung explained that many people with valuable contacts and sterling ideas have previously been fenced out by principalities and powers because of this anti-progressive law which has continued to box over 100million prospective candidates into just 13 members. The position was tested on the floor and it was overwhelmingly accepted and supported by all.”
Phase II of the Dalung frustration: Sebi, no be him go do the final copy of the guideline. The goddess took over. The final copy came out. The document was silent on this despite the assurances from NOC and the Ministry. We in the NOC were in tandem with the Ministry but not the minister,” our friend confessed to what happened.
Phase III of the Dalung frustration: Having done all he has done. He will return to the ministry. We shall tell him, we are the engine he is just a driver. We shall see how he can survive. Ishaya Mark Aku, Abdulrahman Gimba, Bolaji Abdullahi did not survive, how can an ordinary Solomon Dalung who does not know how to speak English survive us, tell me.
May be, there will be new developments before the inauguration of the Boards. At least, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) have started schemes of who takes which federation slots. From the situation on ground, theirs is not too different from what has gone wrong in the bigger polity. Some persons have already started celebrating which federations they got while some have to pledge loyalty to the current executives to be given such slots.
4th July is when the Igbarman will inaugurate the Boards of the sports federation for a journey of three years. Their tenure can never be four years. Watch out.
