Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT Chapter, Comrade Kayode Adeniyi has solicited for the support of the media houses in the coverage of the forthcoming FCT-SWAN Sports stakeholders summit billed for August, this year.
The summit, according to him will give the Abuja administrators the opportunity to map out plans for the development of sports in the territory.
Kayode Adeniyi stated this when he paid a visit to the Managing Director, Aso Radio and TV Services, Grace Adejo.
The FCT SWAN Chairman who was accompanied to the MD office by Head of Sports in the Aso Radio, Clinton Agbor, appealed to the station to join the SWAN in its efforts to reposition the sports in the Capital Territory
“Sports is one industry that Athletes does not need to write application before he or she ventures into any interested game. All you need to do is been discovered by a Coach and from then you continue training to when you can be asked to represent your locality, State or your country in any particular competition” Adeniyi said.
He however appealed to Aso Radio and TV services to join in the coverage of the summit.
While appreciating the role of Sports Writers in the development of sports in the FCT, and Nigeria in general, the Managing Director, Aso Radio and TV Services, Mrs Grace Adejo said some of the problems bedevilling the sports was because the mirror of the Nigeria Sports has failed to take the bull by the horn.
Mrs Adejo commended the Abuja SWAN for planning to organise such Stakeholders summit aimed at addressing the challenges facing the growth of sports in the territory.
The MD who warned against parochial interest, said the interest of the Athletes, Officials and sports administrators should be Paramount in the mind of SWAN.
She promised total support of the station to the forthcoming summit
The FCT Chairman, Kayode Adeniyi used the occasion of his visit to inaugurate the newly reconstituted Sports Desk of the Station. He charged them to use their reportage to help in the development of sports in the FCT and Nigeria.
Responding, Head of Sports Desk, Clinton Agbor promised that his members will stand firm for the truth and will always support any activities of the Association.
