Tafa defeats Chachanga to lift Niger Speakers’ Cup

*We shall sustain the tournament – Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmed Marafa

Lads from Tafa local government area are the winners of the third edition of the Niger Speaker’s Cup. They defeated Chachanga local government in the finals.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the donor of the Niger Speaker’s Cup, Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmed Marafa, praised the level of discipline of the participants. As a legislature, the parliament is doing all we can with the other arms of government to make or state the best in Nigerian sports.

In his comments, the Chairman of Niger state Football Association, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, submitted that the yearly football competition has come to stay in the state.

He said, “as the FA chairman of this state, before now I ruminated on how to engage the youths of this state especially from the grassroots level and I consulted my member association which they all agreed to support the vision few years back before the programme kicked off two years ago.

So, I must confess to everyone that this is part of our catchment programmes for this state which is geared towards football development at lower level, hence by God’s grace noting would stop this programme from running in this power house state,” Fresh disclosed

The chairman referees appointment committee however appreciated the members of the football family who came from different parts of the country to give support, grace the final event.

“I want to appreciate everybody especially the state FA chairmen, from the chairman of chairmen Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji ibrahim Gusau, head of the newly constituted national wide league one body Mr Mohammed Alkali amongst others for creating time out of your tight schedules. I pray that good things would not cease from your various homes.’

Chanchaga LG who demolished Mariga LG 5-2 at the second semi final lost narrowly to Tafa LG who sent Shiroro LG off 6-4 on penalties.

So the final contest between Tafa LG Chanchaga LG ended 1-0 in favour of Tafa LG which made them 2017 winners of the 3rd edition Niger state Speaker Cup under 17 football competition.
