third term ambition of the sitting President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Tijanni Umar, is feared informed the skewed invitations sent out to stakeholders of the game which is expected to converge on the 30th January, 2017 in Abuja.
The event which is co-planned to host its Annual General Meeting (AGM) is expected to be used by the Executive Committee to give stakeholders an account of its stewardship in the year 2016.
According to investigation conducted, “many of the clubs got information through third parties. Some persons who were felt are not in the good books of the present leadership of the Federation including some former international athletes who were considered too critical were not given invitation.
One of such persons volunteered that, “it is the ambition of the present President, Tijanni Umar, to come on a third term that made them to skew the invitation around their friends whereas no matter how you want to define the situation, we are major stakeholders of the game of basketball and cannot be excluded. It is better we are here and excluded when we get to the venue by being disallowed from entering the hall.
The NBBF AGM is expected to hold at 9:00am at the Nigeria Airforce Conference centre, opposite NEXT Supermarket, Gwarinpa Expressway, Kado.
On 31st January, 2017, the federation will also hold an Awards Dinner to recognise, appreciate and honour deserving athletes, administrators, technical officials, sponsors, partners, contributors as well as the media for their meritorious service and outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the game in Nigeria.
