Dr. Mohamed Sani Idiagbon, a former lecturer at the University of Ilorin, who was forced to resign his position after an audio tape exposed him for sexually harassing a student of the school may have joined another university if information at our disposal is anything to go.
We are not sure if he told his current employers what made him to leave his former employment. Meanwhile, most employers in Nigeria are not known to do background checks on the people they employ. We are afraid if his sex-appetite will not be wilder in his new place.
He was the Head of the Department of English when he committed the act that led to his leaving the employ of the University in disgrace. He was allegedly caught in the forceful negotiation to have carnal knowledge of his student. When the report broke, there was denial until when the tape leaked on social media and went viral.
His victim, identified only as “Faith” by the Students’ Union President, is said to be a 200 level student of the department. Faith had gone to the suspect’s office concerning a Continuous Assessment test she had missed and the lecturer appears to have seized the opportunity to demand to sleep with her which she was not disposed to.
Several lecturers of the institution were revealed by the Students Union officials as serially guilty and involved in sexual harassment. They use their position to prey on the female students.
Dr. Idiagbon was invited to the Staff Disciplinary Committee. He refused to honour the invitation. The next thing he did was to resign his appointment.
Kunle Akogun, the University’s Director of Public Communication had told the media when the story broke that, “the university frowns against sexual harassment or any other harassment at that. The university is making necessary investigation and once we are done, the culprit will be brought to book.” Ironically, the culprit did not wait to be brought to book before he opted to leave the University’s employ.
Investigations show that the university failed to take the case seriously until the video went viral on social media, suggesting that the institution is normally negligent in such matters.
We are also checking may be he has joined another university where he would go and continue the same heinous act. We have a clue. We shall unknot it soon. Watch out.
