WORLD CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP: NIGERIA SET TO HOST AS MINISTRY PLEDGES SUPPORT

Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Him.  Sunday Dare has expressed his excitement over the level of development in the Nigeria Cricket Federation, pledging the Ministry’s support towards the World Cricket Cup Competition which will be held in the country coming 2020.

The Minister made this known when a Team of inspectors from the International Cricket Council ICC Africa paid a courtesy visit on him in his office. He stated that, “he had thought Cricket as a mere  footnote in the country but today, he is happy Nigeria Cricket has come of age and has found a place in the Cricket world; a shot from the bloods to the world cup.”

Dare  reiterated that the Ministry will  not only support the Federation but will also work with them in their move to host the World Cup noting that Cricket has become a big time sport that need to be developed as the professionals all over the world are  becoming mega bosses.

Earlier, the President of the Cricket Federation Prof. Yuwenya in his brief analysis on the development of Cricket in Nigeria to where it is today, concluded that the objective of  the International Cricket Council Africa ICC  is to make the Game  strongly rooted in Nigeria.

In her remark, the Leader of the delegation Patricia Kambarami appealed to the Minister to look at the area Government can assist the Federation especially in providing good facilities for their training and quality coaching. She urged him to have faith in the Under 19 boys who will be representing the country at the Cricket World Cup stressing that they have the potentials and heart to win the cup.

Speaking further, Kambarami revealed that Cricket has become a very big business all over the world like Football and whenever Cricket is discussed in Africa, Nigeria comes tops. She also emphasized that their corporate plan  is to have about One million Cricket players in Nigeria by the year 2023.
